ADMISSION POLICY

IS Ticino admits international children arriving or leaving in the middle of the academic year.

ADMISSION POLICY FOR EARLY YEARS AND ELEMENTARY

IS Ticino is open to parents who wish to provide their children with a truly international education with English as the main language of instruction. The school operates a non-discriminatory admission policy.

STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH

IS Ticino will accept children with no previous experience of speaking English.

PARENTS' KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH

Although we do not expect all of our families to be entirely fluent in English, it helps if parents feel competent in the language. All communication with the school is primarily in English - letters, bulletins, reports, meetings and conversations with teachers. We therefore hope that at least one parent in each family can speak English.

In order for parents to honour their commitment to cooperate with the school towards their child's education, at least one parent should be capable of:

• communicating with the school staff in English,
• discussing English-language activities with the child,
• reading the teacher's notes and holding conversations with the teacher in English.

ADMISSION

Students are admitted to the school by the Principal when it is evident that the student can benefit from the school’s programme, that the school has sufficient staffing, and programme capabilities to meet the needs of the child.

Parents who may wish placement for their child in a grade level other than the one indicated by the Admissions Policy can only do so following the recommendation of the Principal.

Each completed application will be treated equitably and priority for entry shall be given to families with siblings already enrolled at the school and international families whose children are fluent in English. All other applications will be processed in strict chronological order and in compliance with the stated Admissions Procedure.
