LEADERSHIP TEAM

Our leadership team brings extensive talent and experience as educators who between them have worked across all four IB programmes (PYP, MYP, DP and CP) in IB schools in the UK, Switzerland, France, Italy, Brazil, Belgium and the Czech Republic and Egypt. With such knowledge in our leadership team, the high academic standards and clear ethos and values of the IB are well integrated into the School and its dedicated and professional teaching body.

NICHOLAS BRUCE | School Principal

"First and foremost, I am a teacher. I have taught English Literature throughout my career, across KS3, IGCSE and the IB (MYP and DP), and I continue to teach at IST alongside my role as Principal. Remaining in the classroom is central to who I am as an educator; it keeps my leadership grounded, relevant, and closely connected to the daily experience of students and teachers.
I hold an MA in Education from UCL and a BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Sussex, alongside UK Qualified Teacher Status. My academic background and professional journey have shaped a strong belief in education that is thoughtful, authentic, and ambitious, with high expectations balanced by care, clarity, and strong relationships.

I place great importance on developing an international mindset within school communities. Holding dual UK and French nationality, and having lived and worked in a range of international contexts, I value cultural understanding, multilingualism, and global perspectives as essential elements of a meaningful education.

I believe that authenticity drives excellent practice. As a leader, I value being visible, approachable, and actively involved in the life of the school. I am a hands-on principal who works alongside teachers, values professional dialogue, and believes that meaningful challenge should exist at every level: for students, for staff, and for leaders alike.
Across my career in international education, I have led teaching and learning, curriculum development, and professional learning in a range of contexts. I have worked closely with Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Project Zero, including the Creating Communities of Innovation programme, and have led the development of award-winning pedagogical frameworks that promote deep thinking, coherence, and innovation in classroom practice. I am also a certified Council of International Schools (CIS) School Evaluator, and value the perspective this work brings to school improvement, reflection, and quality assurance.
I am passionate about holistic education and the belief that learning extends well beyond the classroom. I have led educational trips and residential experiences across the Middle East, the United States, and Europe, alongside extensive involvement in co-curricular life including sport, outdoor education, music, and theatre. As Principal of The International School of Ticino, my aim is to cultivate a warm, ambitious learning community where curiosity is valued, challenge is embraced, and every learner is known, supported, and inspired to flourish."
