Indoor and Outdoor Play

Play is the universal language of childhood

It is through play that children understand each other and make sense of the world around them. Children learn so much from play. It teaches them social skills such as sharing, taking turns, self-discipline and tolerance of others. Children's lives are enhanced by playing creatively and it is through play that children develop emotionally and intellectually. Learning through play lays the foundations for all the core building blocks of life.

In order to promote their learning, young children require periods of time to lie down and open spaces to explore, experiment and play with a variety of materials. The school environment, both indoors and outdoors, is specially designed and organized to stimulate and encourage children to explore and experimentWe provide specific spaces for symbolic and imaginative play, construction, art and manipulation, reading and writing, science and technology, and spaces equipped with materials and teaching resources.

The interaction of children in these spaces stimulates them to learn and provides them with opportunities to:

• Make choices and decisions

• Use the materials in a flexible and imaginative manner

• Begin to probe and pose questions

• Work collaboratively with others

• Foster interests and extend their knowledge

• Develop ways to understand reality
